How Microsoft 365 tenants drift out of governance
5 min read
Most Microsoft 365 environments are not designed in a single project. They accumulate — a mailbox migration here, a Teams rollout there, a handful of licenses added as headcount grows.
Individually, each of these decisions is reasonable. Collectively, they often leave organizations with inconsistent security defaults, undocumented configuration, and licensing that no longer matches actual usage.
Bringing a tenant back under governance does not usually require a rebuild. It requires a structured review of identity, data and access configuration, followed by a small number of prioritized corrections.
