The real cost of undocumented infrastructure

Undocumented infrastructure is rarely a crisis on its own. It becomes one during a staff change, an incident, or a growth event — exactly the moments when clarity matters most.

Documentation is often treated as an afterthought because it does not visibly move a project forward. In practice, it is what allows an environment to be operated, secured and improved by more than one person over time.

A useful starting point is not exhaustive documentation of everything, but a clear record of what exists, why it exists, and who is responsible for it.
